This year, the Onegin National Opera Award will mark its fifth anniversary by bringing together performers, directors, and producers to honour the opera world’s best and brightest.
“Back in summer, we doubted that the awards ceremony would be able to take place this anniversary year,” says Igor Tarasov, President of the Onegin National Opera Award. “But when we went ahead with the call for nominations, we were pleasantly surprised to see submissions flooding in: we received 94 nominations from all regions of Russia, from the Chuvash Republic and Komi to Astrakhan and Volgograd, both in the competition categories and for our other awards. Even better, the pandemic has given us a new category, Best Online Project, by bringing into being a new genre and format which is probably not going anywhere and will likely be with us forever.”
As is now traditional, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will host the awards ceremony on 13 November. Host is Sati Spivakova. This celebratory gala will bring Russia’s best voices, known throughout the world, together on the same stage. Singers Elena Stikhina, Venera Gimadieva, Bogdan Volkov, Vasily Ladyuk, Anton Rositskiy, and Dmitry Ulyanov will perform alongside the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s very own Svetlana Moskalenko, Olesya Petrova, and Dmitry Golovnin. The orchestra will be conducted by Dmitri Jurowski.
